HEAR FROM THE '24-'25 ALUMNI:

What pillar(s) of Cap Corps (prayer, simplicity, community, service) was most significant for you?

“Cap Corps afforded me the chance to live more completely as a beloved child of God, and all four pillars supported this. Prayer was especially prominent for me. I found a lot of peace in prayer. It also gave me the confidence to live out the other three pillars well. Service reminded me that I was doing Cap Corps to uplift myself and others to God. It was great to share the joys and challenges of everyday with George and Tim. Living on a simple budget was also a fun challenge.”

I would tell them it’s a very privileged year. Not “privileged” in the sense that you have some form of advantage over others, but “privileged” in the sense that it’s a unique opportunity filled with many blessings and challenges. It’s a year set aside where you can be more intentional about faith, connecting with others, deepening prayer, growing in charity, or even learning a few new skills… or all the above.”

If you were to recommend Cap Corps to someone, what would you tell them?

What advice do you have to share?

The more time, especially initially, that you devote to being present and building community, the more fruit that will come of the year. If that means turning off screens and committing more to doing things together, then I recommend it. The connection you form with each volunteer and each [Capuchin] Brother is a reflection also of what you put in.”

IN MEMORIUM:
REMEMBERING RYAN REALBUTO

Ryan served as a Cap Corps Volunteer from August of 2023 through his passing in January of 2024. During that time his service ministry was at Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School and Corporate Work Study Program. 

 

We thank you, Ryan, for your “yes” to Cap Corps and the gift of knowing you, your commitment to serving the poor and sharing your joy in community. You gave us an example by which to live.

Ryan was made an affiliate of Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Province of St. Augustine. Along with the other affiliates of the Province, Ryan is prayed for each year on the day of his death and is included on prayer cards for remembering friar birthdays and deceased friars.

​

 We hold onto the hope of our faith that Ryan is now in the presence of God, interceding for us and experiencing the eternal joy of Heaven.

Our goal as a Catholic service program is to send forth young adults who are transformed by the lived experience of community, service, simplicity and prayer and have gained a greater understanding of the person God has called them to be. The Capuchin Franciscan Volunteer Corps offers men and women the opportunity to serve in full-time positions that uplift the poor, vulnerable and marginalized, while living simply in an intentional community with other volunteers and accompanied by the joyful fellowship of the Capuchin Friars. Embracing the spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi and his example of living the Gospel of Jesus Christ is central to this experience of community and service.
